Went to a festival…

June 3rd, 2010 · 5 Comments

…and a wheel followed me home.

This one is a double treadle Roadbug by Merlin Tree. Yes I was still looking for a perfect wheel for the boat. The Journey Wheel is good and small but a tad heavy. I wanted something small with two treadles (thanks to the now injured left foot a single treadle isn’t the happiest thing for me on a small wheel). My first stop after hitting the fairgrounds at Cummington was Dave’s booth where I tried out the DT version and was happily spinning along for a while. No surprise that I bought it. I did leave a wheel wit Dave though. I gave him that mismatched CPW that I got in February. That thing had a drive wheel too big for the table, a frankenwheel if you will. I gave it to him for parts. I’m glad to be rid of it.

Anyway, now I have a small light wheel for the boat and got to use it there this weekend. Worked out nicely even if I had to carry it from way across the marina parking lot. Wouldn’t have survived carrying the journey wheel that far. The yarn you see draped on the bag is the first skein off the bug. It is 4oz of BFL fro Spunky that I also got at the festival. It is approximately 310 yds. Not my finest of spinning but will do as sock yarn or maybe a hat for the kids. I should probably get a head start on that this year and not wait until October :)

Time to head to the train..

Someday

April 23rd, 2010 · 4 Comments

Someday I’m going to frakin’ learn to not code something before the designers are finished designing.  I just frakin’ wasted a day and have to rewrite 3/4 of what I wrote.

Shit.

Best Craigslist Post EVER

March 5th, 2010 · 12 Comments

After a few years of practicing law, I have realized that my law degree is useless and that I don’t want to be a lawyer anymore. I bought it for over $150,000 (brand new), but I will let it go for $112,281, which is the current outstanding amount of my student loan balance.

It measure 8 1/2 x 11 inches. Cum Laude version. It’s printed on super-fancy parchment paper (looks like the Constitution, but newer).

This priceless collectible will permit you to be surrounded by hobby-less, anal assholes whose entire life is dictated by hourly billing and valued by the number of typos they can pick out in any given document. Additionally, this piece of paper has the amazing ability to keep you from doing what you really want to do in life, all in the name of purported prestige and financial success. Finally, superficial girls will swoon over you with retarded thoughts of “sugar daddy” when they hear that you are a lawyer.

Please note that this piece of shit isn’t even written in English. It’s in Latin, but I have the translation.

This is actually a serious post. I will really sell this piece of shit. $112,281 or best offer. E-mail Alex.

It was really here.  I wonder how much I could sell my non-cum laude version for ;) And people wonder why I gave it all up to become a software developer!

Thanks for the feedback on Victoria’s tattoo. ¬†I’m pleased with it and the Red Sox socks make me giggle when I see them. ¬† Here’s a picture of the artist, Don, in progress.

tat_in_progress

Don is a friend of JessaLu’s who details cars. ¬†He did the tat on her Amelia and she arranged for him to come to Tina’s Stitch & Spin this past weekend. ¬†Excellent pictures and summary there. ¬†I again thank Tina for hosting and Jess for reminding me.

I got a bonus in that the folks picked the monkeys up at camp early on Friday and took them directly to the boat.  This meant I could go to the S&S alone.   I had the house to myself Friday night!  It was eerily quiet.  I had a relaxing evening and drove up early Sat morning to meet Jess at a diner in Catskill for breakfast.  Have I mentioned I hate the stupid NY State Thruway?  Well I do.  Two lane highways should be illegal!

Sigh.  Anway, I had a stressful drive up as traffic either flowed way fast or slowed to a crawl for no apparent reason other than a dingbat in a crappy car that was too scared to pass a truck.  Add in that my 2.5 yr old Magellan GPS refused to accept input of an address.  I was free to get assistance to any previously entered address, but any street I tried to input in 3 states were rejected for being invalid.  I had to use the Google nav on my iPhone.  But then again, I had battery issues there and a crappy arsed charger that actually drained the battery.  Grrrr.  After breakfast, Jess and I hit the local Walmart and I picked up a good charger and a new TomTom.

There’s also something about driving in upstate NY that turns my car into a animal killing machine. ¬†In all the years I’ve been driving, I had exactly 2 roadkills. ¬†Now? ¬†The last two trips have doubled that! ¬†Last trip was a ground hog, though if it hadn’t of been my car that took the little guy out, it would have been the 18 wheeler behind me. ¬†This trip? ¬†A bird or two. ¬†Sigh.

Moving along, last week was the Trike-a-thon at school.  Alex completed the most laps for his class at 26 while Kat came in at 22.  The school was able to raise $1,500.

Thanks for the donations!  Random number generator selected JessaLu as the winner of the Malabrigo sock and I was able to hand deliver it to her this past weekend.

Gotta write some code.

The twins will be participating in a trike-a-thon to benefit St. Jude Children’s Hospital on June 24th (I know, I just got the form!).

If you would be interested in sponsoring them, either through a fixed donation amount or a per lap amount, please either email me at (risa AT crazyfiberlady DOT com) or leave a comment to this post. ¬†Or you could send a paypal to ¬†me at (risaphil AT gmail DOT com). ¬†Please make sure you don’t choose the option to pay for goods. ¬†We’d like as much $$ to go to the charity and not paypal’s fees.

I offer up a skein of Malabrigo Sock in Boticelli Red to be randomly drawn from those who donate :)

If we get enough sponsors, I could probably dig up a few more prizes, maybe even some handspun.

Thank you!

What’s Happening

April 21st, 2009 · 10 Comments

I know I went quiet there. ¬†I’ve been busy and still am. ¬†This will be a quick one. ¬†Between the normal business that I’ve had (work, kids, knitting, spinning) there’s the new busy of the gym. ¬†My membership came with an hour session with a personal trainer. ¬†I had this session on Saturday. ¬†I’m finally moving again without too much pain ;) ¬†

A WOMAN’S WEEK AT THE GYM

Dear Diary,
For my birthday this year, my Husband (the dear) purchased a week of personal training at the local health club for me.

Although I am still in great shape since being a high school football cheerleader 43 years ago, I decided it would be a good idea to go ahead and give it a try.

I called the club and made my reservations with a personal trainer named Christo, who identified himself as a 26-year-old aerobics instructor and model for athletic clothing and swim wear.

My husband seemed pleased with my enthusiasm to get started! The club encouraged me to keep a diary to chart my progress.

________________________________
MONDAY:
Started my day at 6:00 a.m. Tough to get out of bed, but found it was well worth it when I arrived at the health club to find Christo waiting for me. He is something of a Greek god – with blond hair, dancing eyes and a dazzling white smile. Woo Hoo!!

Christo gave me a tour and showed me the machines. I enjoyed watching the skillful way in which he conducted his aerobics class after my workout today. Very inspiring!

Christo was encouraging as I did my sit-ups, a lthough my gut was already aching from holding it in the whole time he was around. This is going to be a FANTASTIC week-!!

 ________________________________
TUESDAY:
I drank a whole pot of coffee, but I finally made it out the door. Christo made me lie on my back and push a heavy iron bar into the air then he put weights on it! My legs were a little wobbly on the treadmill, but I made the full mile. His rewarding smile made it all worthwhile. I feel GREAT-!! It’s a whole new life for me.

 _______________________________
WEDNESDAY:
The only way I can brush my teeth is by laying the toothbrush on the counter and moving my mouth back and forth over it. I believe I have a hernia in both pectorals. Driving was OK as long as I didn’t try to steer or stop. I parked on top of a GEO in the club parking lot.

Christo was impatient with me, insisting that my screams bothered other club members. His voice is a little too perky for that early in the morning and when he scolds, he gets this nasally whine that is VERY annoying.

My chest hurt when I got on the treadmill, so Christo put me on the stair monster. Why the hell would anyone invent a machine to simulate an activity rendered obsolete by elevators? Christo told me it would help me get in shape and enjoy life. He said some other sh*t too.

_______________________________
THURSDAY:
A**hole was waiting for me with his vampire-like teeth exposed as his thin, cruel lips were pulled back in a full snarl. I couldn’t help being a half an hour late – it took me that long to tie my shoes.

He took me to work out with dumbbells. When he was not looking, I ran and hid in the restroom. He sent some skinny b*tch to find me.

Then, as punishment, he put me on the rowing machine — which I sank.

FRIDAY:
I hate that bastard Christo more than any human being has ever hated any other human being in the history of the world. Stupid, skinny, anemic, anorexic little aerobic instructor. If there was a part of my body I could move without unbearable pain, I would beat him with it.

¬†Christo wanted me to work on my triceps. I don’t have any triceps! And if you don’t want dents in the floor, don’t hand me the damn barbells or anything that weighs more than a sandwich.

The treadmill flung me off and I landed on a health and nutrition teacher. Why couldn’t it have been someone softer, like the drama coach or the choir director?

________________________________
SATURDAY:
Satan left a message on my answering machine in his grating, shrilly voice wondering why I did not show up today. Just hearing his voice made me want to smash the machine with my planner; however, I lacked the strength to even use the TV remote and ended up catching eleven straight hours of the Weather Channel.

________________________________
SUNDAY:
I’m having the Church van pick me up for services today so I can go and thank GOD that this week is over. I will also pray that next year my husband will choose a gift for me that is fun — like a root canal or a hysterectomy. I still say if God had wanted me to bend over, he would have sprinkled the floor with diamonds!!!¬†

Except mine’s name is Rafael ;) ¬†I’m seeing him again Saturday morning for a 30 min session. ¬†Hopefully no migraine after this visit as I’m planning on going to ¬†Clermont.

Quickie

April 6th, 2009 · 2 Comments

I have photos to show and updates to talk about, however the photos are on the dSLR which is home and I’m not. And I have lots to do at work. Here’s a quickie quiz. Not entirely sure what it says about me and if I like it:

Your rainbow is slightly shaded red.

What is says about you: You are a passionate person. You appreciate energetic people. You get bored easily and want friends who will keep up with you.

Find the colors of your rainbow at spacefem.com.

Beyond that, I just had to post this. It was filmed a couple of weeks ago during my SnB at MY. Sadly, the store is closing and ironically this aired Friday morning after our last SnB. {sniff, sniff}
