…make one.
As I mentioned yesterday, I was working on a cover for my nook. I finished it last night and my nook is cozy within it. I’m tempted to add an i-cord strap to it for carrying ease. I have plenty of the oogly yarn left and am in no danger of using it for anything else.
I made some mods to the pattern and added some 1/1 rib to the inside edge to add a little snug security. As u can see I also made it envelope style and added a buttonhole.
Its ugly but does the job

I want to thank everyone for the warm thoughts and healing wishes you sent me. They we very much appreciated. Im recovering slowly though far slower then I would have liked. On the upside I can sit in my tube and either type or knit
In the pictue is the current knitting project – a cover for my beloved nookColor. The yarn is noro kureyon sock on a US1. I started it last night and should have it done. See it comfortably reclining on my very chic swim tube gum butt cushion.
Oh well, back to work. Craft on!

I figured it was time to give a better, picture of the current sweater project. Might not have exactly met the “better” part of that, but you can see it is a sweater. Meet Caroline. She is a wrap v-neck designed by Leann. She modeled the sweater at WOOL this summer and I knew I had to make it. I begged her to let me test knit it. Thank goodness she took pity on me and let me have a go at it.
The yarn is Tosh Merino Light in Sequoia. Gotta love the colorations. It is worked in one piece first from a provisional cast on up to the shoulders. Then top down creating the wrap and the skirt/bottom. I’m almost through the increases in the skirt part now. Love it!
The Tosh Light has some color variation between skeins, and within them! That’s the joy of hand dye without dyelot
Ok. Need to finish up a few things this morning. Having lunch with Kim today! We’re taking advantage of my remaining time in the city. I haven’t mentioned this here yet, but my office is moving the software development staff from Lower Manhattan to a space in NJ. Somerville. Its a bit of a mix for me. No train, but lots of car. Lower taxes, but higher car expenses. Similar commute times, but inability to do anything else at the same time. Unless of course I’m stuck in traffic. I could knit then. I’ll miss the reading/knitting/gabbing/coding portion of the commute, but won’t miss being married to the train schedule. I’ve never enjoyed that. Not to mention, I haven’t been enjoying the way NJTransit and NYWaterway are cramming us on as if we were cargo. That I won’t miss. Not sure when the change is coming but the lease was signed for Jan 1. Build out is necessary in the space, as usual. Last I hear mid-January was “aggressive”, with Feb being more likely. Change is good, right?

Why yes, amongst all the other things that demand my time, I do still knit! This is the test knitting that I’ve been working on. I wasn’t able to show it before because Leann had submitted it to Knitty. Unfortunately they declined the pattern (leading me to further question their recent design decisions as I knew I had to knit thus as soon as I saw it this past summer at WOOL). Their loss. The yarn is Tosh merino in the Sequoia colorway that I’m in love with. Can’t tell much about it from this picture that I took on the train this morning. And yes that is my rooted Nook Color behind it.
Off to knit a bit before bed and watch Monty Python And the Holy Grail on IFC.

Yup. That is another Selbu Modern. One of a very few patterns I would knit twice. This time it is in yarn I bought from Leann, in pinks and charcoal. Kat keeps swiping my brown/pink version so I figured id make a new one but to match my raspberry and grey coat instead. Love the pattern and the yarn.
I want to wish those the celebrate it a very happy and healthy thanksgiving. I will be spending the holiday with my family at home, hopefully getting alot of knitting and app coding done

It struck me that I never showed a picture of Adrift in her finished state. I kind of suck like that
I can say that it is just about perfect. Honestly I would wear it every day if I could. I sort of force myself to dig out one of the many other sweaters I’ve knit and wear that, or in a pinch one of my souvenirs from that year of hell working at JCrew. Anyway, this is not the bestest of pictures but you’ll get the idea of how very wonderful the drape is.
My current project is moving along and still secret. I can say that I have finished the upper back and one half of the upper front. I need to pick up the held stitches for the second half, and that should progress quickly. I’ve also broken out of my recent monogamous knitting pattern and started a sock. Hopefully more on that soon, before I finish it.
My droid app is selling pretty well. The little deposits in my bank account from Google make me smile. I’ve since written a second app, this one a spinners toolkit. I only released it this weekend so we will see how it goes. I do have some major additions to make to it including a log section where you can record info about the resulting yarn and add a picture of it. I have to say that I am really enjoying coding again. Must also admit to the deep love I feel for my Droid X. Love it as much, or more if that is possible as my old iPhone. Have the next app figured oh as well. Came to me as I was trying to sleep the other night: a knitters toolkit. This would be a collection of things like a yardage calculator, an increase/decrease calculator, kitchener definition. Maybe even a pattern generator for simple stuff like socks or top-down raglans.
Train is almost in Hoboken. Time to upload and put this away.

I do still knit! Im not all about the buying of new things
tho I must confess to writing this post on my new Droid X. I should have gotten this phone in the first place but because I have no patience I could not wait for it to be available and got whatever I could right then and there. Means that I paid way more than I should have but the old phone is on ebay right now and I’ll recoup some of the money spent. In the end I’m very happy with the new doodad, which is what matters afterall, isnt it?
Anyway, I’ve ben spending quality time with my knitting and my laptop catching up on season one episodes of Dexter. Tell me why I never watched that sure before please! Love it! Anyway, I finished Adrift about two weeks ago now and have started a new sweater that I cannot tell you much about other than that Leann designed it and showed off at WOOL this year. Since she has submitted it to Knitty, I cant give too much more than showing this little bit. What I can say is that it is an awesome sweater that I fell in live with when I first saw it this summer and practically begged to test knit.
The yarn I am using is a heavy lace weight that I bought at MDSW somewhere along the line. It is a cormo/angora/cashmere blend that is just heaven to work with. I can’t wait until I can show more.

Just to show you that I am not all buy this /code that I hereby post some knitting. I know! Gasp. This is Adrift. I’m knitting it in yummy malabrigo laceweight. The color is Indigo. I love this sweater. The body is finished and the first sleeve was picked up last night while I waited for the Tylenol Cold to kick in.
As for all my grand plans of what to do yesterday? Not much beyond what I blogged last. I spent the rest of the day dozing in front of the TV. Caught 3 episodes of Dexter on demand. Been meaning to watch it before but had never done so. I’m glad that I finally got the chance. Most enjoyable. Also watched lady weeks Big Bang, as well as that new Shatner show that airs after it. That is funny stuff! I heard it was based on a book. I must dig that one up!
Train is pulling into the station. Time to post. Good day all.

I know its been a bit since I last posted. It goes without saying that I’ve been busy. I’ve been knitting and spinning, as well as reading and working. Not to mention, hot and sweaty. Been a very decent summer so far. This July girl does not complain about heat.. well too often that is. Summer is my season and I don’t wish it gone, at all. Even though September brings the end of paid for schooling, I’m in no rush to see it come.
A couple of weeks ago, I started knitting Featherweight Cardigan in 100purewool sock weight in a gorgeous blue. I’m really enjoying working with this yarn.
This has been the perfect commuter project. A lightweight cardigan that is stockinette makes for excellent reading work. It has also been good for playing the Sims (which I’m back at for a change), especially during the 10 day west coast Red Sox swing recently. 10PM starts are way too late for me these days. I just can’t stay up that late anymore :*( I’m a bit further along on this than the picture indicates. I’m about a half inch of finishing the bottom ribbing. I need to dig out the longer needle to do the sleeves.
What’s that under the Featherweight you ask? I know it came as no surprise when I bought the iPad, so maybe this might. I loved the iPad, but unfortunately, it did not meet my needs in for portable computing. I found myself having to also carry my netbook (acer aspire one 10”). Put the iPad together with the netbook and I had a bag that was a big heavier than I really wanted to carry. I pulled out the druggy scale and discovered that the pair were actually heavier than my MacBook. Might as well carry that for an all-in-one tech toy.
But I really didn’t want to carry that much. So for a bit, I replaced the iPad in the bag with my Kindle 2. The solution was lighter, however, I was still not happy with the reading of the PDFs. The netbook screen is too small to read it well and the Kindle 2 does a half hearted job at the PDF with lots of embedded images (and charts) that make up the majority of my tech books. Which is why I replaced the Kindle with the iPad to begin with as it does the tech pdf very well. Solution? The Kindle DX! Its a great compromise between the weight of the ebook reader with the PDF ability of the iPad. No games, but I have my phone for that…
Which brings me to the new phone you see. That is the HTC Incredible from Verizon. I did go with the Android phone instead of getting a new iPhone. I’m loving it! Been a bit of a learning curve as it is an entirely new OS for me, but it is intuitive enough that it hasn’t been overly problematic. I’ve kept my iPhone to use as a Touch as for some odd reason I don’t like using my phone as an iPod. Before I got the Incredible, I carried around a separate iPod to listen to. Amazing how long the battery is now lasting on the iPhone. I’m impressed with the specs on this new phone and I can’t complain about having an 8MP camera with FLASH on me at all times. As for developing apps for it? I’m working towards that. I’ve got my netbook set up as a development station for it and picked up a book on the subject, which I’ve been reading on the DX
Now to figure out what to do with the old iPods and the Kindle 2.
Yesterday Kat and I visited a new to us yarn store: Yarn Diva. I wanted some Malabrigo to knit Adrift in and didn’t have enough of anything in stash. I’d never been to this store, but had meant to. I’m sorry I didn’t make the trip earlier. I loved it! I do believe I have a new LYS. They are so friendly and very helpful. There’s a great selection of what I would consider basic yarns (lace, sock), as well as some of the more designer yarns that appeal to others. I’m definitely going back there again.
Time to finish the laundry, balance the checkbook and make the necessary lists before heading off to WOOL this week!
