Not sure why I didn’t adopt the cafeteria at the office before for lunch, but I have now. The food is surprisingly good (today was teriyaki salmon) and it is plenty big and quiet. I have my kindle and my knitting.

The sock is growing nicely. Work is meh. I have an obnoxious coworker who makes me want to throat punch him. Most of the actual work is still good. I’m currently porting the iPad apps to Android. But this guy is making it tough to want to make this place my long term home. We shall see. Going on a cruise with the kids two weeks from Friday. Maybe a vacation with remove the knot from my chest and reduce the impulse to update my resume.

Still life

March 4th, 2014 · Comments Off on Still life

I had a nice normal length lunch today where I even got to knit! I’ve finished the first sock and now past the toe increases for its mate.

Why yes I do have a French press at the office. It makes a much better cup of coffee than the coffee maker here.

This feels like the old days when I knitted every day. Doing a little lunch time sock knitting. Yarn is Miss Babs if I remember correctly.

Lunch

August 29th, 2013 · Comments Off on Lunch

While I might not be taking the train everyday or even working from home most of the week, the new job is awesome. And when the boys ( my partners in crime ) aren’t in because they work from home and when I don’t go to the gym, I can have a nice quiet lunch. Like today. With my clown barf yarn slowly becoming a sock.

I dug out an old project to see if I could still actually make it happen. This is the crazy socks in crazy thin silk. I am almost done with the increases for the calf. Getting there. This is also the first time that I put the stocking on and I am happy to find that it will probably fit 🙂

Speedy Catch Up

June 13th, 2013 · Comments Off on Speedy Catch Up

I didn’t realize so much time has passed since my last posting.  Rather than a whole bunch of recaps, I’ll do a quick photo essay of what’s been going on at chez CFL.

I was keeping busy for a change.  Writing an update to iKnitCounter on one, reinstalling OSX on another, listening to a baseball game on a third and honestly can’t remember why the fourth was there except it was the original computer I’d done the counter on :)  Updated version of iKnitCounter in the app store if you haven’t already gotten it.

There’s more but I have to get to a meeting shortly..

Almost…

March 27th, 2013 · Comments Off on Almost…

I’ve almost got the first sock of the year done.  So close!

I went for my first morning outside run today.  Did better than previous outside runs, but not as far or as fast as I do on the treadmill.

I’m learning there’s a big difference between treadmills and the outdoors!  I’m more than a little tempted to restart the C25K outside.  I think I’ll do that tomorrow.  Now to come up with activities for the “rest” days.  Might be time to pull out and tune up the bike I bought last summer but have never ridden 😉

Returning to Normal

March 13th, 2013 · 2 Comments

or rather the new normal…

Coming back from vacation is usually a challenge.  Honestly I can’t believe that it is over and that the next cruise is going to be July 2014.  My parents will be celebrating their 50th anniversary and taking all us kids and grandkids on a cruise!   We booked it while aboard the ship this time, much like this year’s cruise was booked aboard last year.  It is a wonderful vacation and other than one day when the sea was a bit rough due to a cold front, I managed fine with no nausea and a set of pressure point bracelets.  No patch for me this year, I didn’t enjoy the withdrawal symptoms last year.  They were awful!

Anyway…while I no longer have the train commute to knit, I also no longer have 2+ hours of commuting either.  My round trip is under an hour.  I know.  Still makes me giddy.  I have an additional hour at home now!  Last night I used that hour in a very familiar way:

2013.1.sock

Yes, that’s a Kindle Paperwhite under that there sock in progress.  I have to say that while I wasn’t overly impressed with the Kindle Touch, I do very much like the Paperwhite.  I don’t have any of the issues with it that I did with either the Touch or the dopey Nook version.

The sock is more Into the Whirled monthly yarn club yarn, this time in Sterrennacht, the Jan 2013 color.   I might not be cranking them out as quickly as I used to.   This sock has been around as I had it on the ship too, and it goes back and forth to work should I get stuck in a traffic jam or something.  Most of my knitting time recently has been on this:

photo

The project is Caramel, and the yarn is also Into the Whirled, but her worsted weight stuff.  Colors are Stark (grey) and Queen of France (multi).  Love love love this.

In other news that hasn’t been posted here, in January, I bought a treadmill

photo (1)

and started the Couch-to-5k.  I even ran on the ship while we were on vacation.  I have to say, it was beautiful early one morning, running on the treadmill, while the ship pulled in an moored in Dominican Republic off Samana.  I graduated from the program this week and am now doing interval training to pick up my speed and endurance.  I’ve lost 7lbs and 2” and am watching what I eat.  I’m signed up to do a triathlon sprint distance with my sister in July where I’ll run the 5k.

Since I started running, I’ve been sleeping better and overall feeling better.  Even my craptastic ankles are doing better!  Whodathunk that!  I’m even getting up earlier than normal and hitting the treadmill before work!  I’m honestly gobsmacked.  I hated with a capital H running prior to starting this.

So that should bring us closer to being up to date.  I’ve got to get back to coding stuff.  More shortly.

Baby steps

January 3rd, 2013 · 2 Comments

I’m making little tiny baby steps along the tracks of my crazy lace stockings.  I promise I won’t post a daily update picture, but I couldn’t help it.  I sat with this after work last night for about an hour or so.

Weee!  2″ now @ 44 rows. Guess I now know the row gauge is 22 rows/in.  Hahahahha.

Taking a break from the teeny tiny needles, I went back to spinning for Party Mix.  I’ve finished all the semi-solid yarn and have moved along to the multiple stuff.  I’m n-plying the single to come up with a three-ply yarn.  Found that one 4 oz braid of the merino/silk will fit on a single Golding bobbin.

This is the second of three braids to spin of the multi.  Have to say, I LOVE my Golding wheel.  I’m spinning this on the full sized baby.  I did this last night while watching the second half of The Hunger Games on demand.  I loved the books and found the move enjoyable.

Earning the ‘crazy’

January 1st, 2013 · 2 Comments

There’s been a project that has tickled my subconscious for a long time now.  Since Knitting Vintage Socks came out and I discovered the Weldon’s Pamphlets, I’ve wanted to knit an OLD skool stocking.  Last week I decided it was time to give it a try.  While I have the right volume in hard back, I found the PDF online.  I spent a great deal of google time trying to find the right yarn as the yarn cited in the pattern is long since gone.  I couldn’t even find any specs on it and the pattern doesn’t give a gauge.  The best I could turn up lead me to buy a cone of 60/2 silk from Webs, which arrived yesterday.  The 0000 dpns were already in stash.  No idea when I added them but most likely during my phase where I wanted to knit a real Orenburg shawl.

This morning afternoon I decided it was time.

Crazy highway onramp

Got my cone, dpns and reading glasses ready.  Oh yes, plenty of coffee too, had to stay alert.

Two hours later I had completed 22 rounds of 120 st per round 3×1 ribbing of @1″.

1" of pure silk stocking

This is awesome!  Am I earning the “crazy” in my moniker or what?
