Not crazy

March 23rd, 2015 · Comments Off on Not crazy

I have to admit that I’m not crazy about the after-thought heel. I’m also not thrilled with two at a time. Halfway through this pair I swapped them to one at a time.

I just finished the heel of the first one and am fighting the urge to rip the second back and do a normal heel.

I’m getting nice knitting time since I stepped in a pothole and rolled my awesome right ankle. I’ve been off my feet since Thursday 🙁

2015.2

Yup I do still knit socks!

Having decided a few pairs back that two at once isn’t all terrible, I on another pair that way. I didn’t like the heel I had been using so I’m trying something different and new this go around. Would you believe that after all these years of knitting socks that I’ve never done an afterthought heel? Hard to believe I know! I’m finally trying it now. So far so good. That reddish pink row is the placeholder for the heel.

The picture was taken yesterday so I’m a little further along now. Hope to finish up the tubular knitting in the next day or so and then get to the heels. If I like this approach, I might just invest in some semi solids to use for heels and toes 🙂

Day Four

Here is day four of the sock.  I didn’t knit on the way home last night.  I finished up the heel this morning and started up the cuff.  Caught the local train so I had a bit more knitting time.

Today is the company outing to Governor’s Island so I’ll have bonus knitting time today.

Another Day

Another 24 hours later and here’s the sock…

I’ve got two short rows left and the heel is done.   I’m trying something new for the heel.  This is the OMG Heel from Megan Williams.  SpinKnitLove inquired about the technique in yesterday’s comment and it seemed serendipitous considering I was about an inch shy of starting a heel.   Not sure how it fits yet, but I like the technique so far!  I love that there’s always more to learn in the fiber arts.

On another note, anyone know when AIG put their name back on their building?  I remember when the pulled it down in the midst of the financial crisis, but I’ve been out of lower Manhattan since June of 2011.  I noticed it on my way to the office sometime last week.

Same sock 24 hours later:

I’m about an inch shy of starting the short row heel.  Ah, it is good to be back.  I do think the next project is not going to be socks.  My niece has requested a sweater and I promised her one.  I think I’ll do Knit ‘n Tonic’s Swing Coat.  I made one for my little girl ages ago and even have more than enough of the same yarn left.  I was able to locate the yarn in stash and while I couldn’t find the electronic version of the pattern, I have the printed copy I used way back in ’05.  Glad I save the print outs!  I wasn’t eager to buy another copy.

Time to get some bugs out.

Progress

August 11th, 2014 · 1 Comment

So I’ve been working in the city again now since May 19th.  I’ve now finished my fourth pair of socks since I’ve been back!  My train ride isn’t all that long, 30 min each way if I catch the express, with another 15 min on the ferry, but that’s 45 min I didn’t have at all when I was driving to work.  Here’s the pair I finished off on the boat Saturday:

To spice things up, I knit these cuff down with the flap heel!  Haven’t knit one of those in so long I had to look up a pattern.  The yarn is the June 2014 Into the Whirled club yarn.

This morning I cast on the next pair, also in Into the Whirled yarn, colorway is Mukhina.  Love the names that Cris comes up with.

By the time the ferry hit Wall Street, I’d finished the toe.

Again

These socks need to be renamed the Screw Up Pair. First I made the second one 4 stitches too narrow. Needless to say that I had to rip it out as it did not fit Kathryn.   I just checked my progress on the now re-enter cuff to see how much further I had before starting the ribbing:

My thumb nail is where the ribbing began on the first sock. I know what I’m doing tonight.  Seriously you’d think that this was my first pair!

Still Alive

April 20th, 2014 · 3 Comments

I know its been a while since I last posted. Stuff has been going on. Work hasn’t gotten any better and as a matter of fact it is gotten worse. Can’t go into details but it is what it is. The kids and I went on a cruise with stops in Nassau, where we did this at Atlantis

and Florida where we went to Disney.

I both bought another wheel and have sold one.  Both are in this picture 🙂

I finished a pair of socks:

Started a new pair:

And I’ve been spinning!

That should catch us up.  I’ll try and post more regularly now that I’ve caught up 😉
