One Crazy Fiber Lady

Carousel

I find myself at yet another Last Day.  I know I’ve used the hand clock/carousel thing in the past as I’ve left a job.  It just fits.  And it makes me smile 🙂  My two weeks are official over today.  I guess it goes without saying that I will be leaving early today.  I’m already packed, bags are on desk and ready to go.  I might stick it out until lunchtime.  We’ll see.  One thing I will miss is the walk through Madison Square Park each morning and afternoon.

I really love the oasis of nature nestled in the big bad city.

Now, since the new office is going to be a car ride away, I will be missing my knitting/reading time on the train.  In honor of the last day of train commuting, I managed to bind off what will be the last pair of commuter socks on the PATH ride.

I just need to work the tails in, but they are for all intents and purposes done.  Project details:

  • Yarn:  Into the Whirled Manchester Sock
  • Colorway:  Fierce & Flawless – June 2012 club yarn
  • Started:  6/19/12
  • Finished:  7/3/12
  • Pattern:  Own mishmash of sock goodness – toe up over 52st on US1

Must apologize for not realizing that there was a window with a serviceable ledge with NATURAL LIGHT before today.  Oh well.  Love love love this yarn.  The colors yelled at me the moment that I opened the mailing pack and cast on immediately.   This also brings my total to 7 pairs of socks for 2012 with 10 skeins of sock yarn at least partially used ( Simple Things and Stripe Study Shawl used 3).  Since sock yarn officially counts now, I need to stay on top of it.

For the first year, I’m also participating in the Tour de Fleece, joining the Rookies and ITW teams primarily.  Pretty sure there might be another one or two (support spindlers and schacht come to mind) .  The goal really is to spin every day with some side goals of finishing a number of pending projects.  The first project is one that I’ve been hanging onto for a while for the TdF.  I have 12oz of May ITW club romney fiber in the Inara colorway, as well as 12oz of a coordinating colorway.  Ideally, I want to knit a top-down raglan.

Day 1 was spent outside on the patio with the first 4oz bag of Inara and my SpinOlution Queen Bee.  I fractal spun (which is what I’ve been doing for years, just didn’t have a name for it!) it:

Yes well, I didn’t divide the length in exactly half.  The solid half was a tad thicker.  I had it spun and plied.  Day 2 was more of the same, just inside as it was beastly hot on Sunday 🙂

There are now two skeins of fractal spun Romney measuring in at 500 yds @8oz.

Day 3 I had to go to work (notice I didn’t say I worked, because other than fixing one bug and going for my exit interview, I didn’t do a heck of alot) so the spinning time was greatly reduced.  I wanted to take a break from the colorful stuff and pulled out a bag of the coordinate.  I have the first bobbin done (2oz).

After work today, we’ll be heading out on the boat for the yearly fireworks from Bowline Park in Haverstraw.  I’m debating leaving the wheel at home (its going to be another hot one) and “making do” with the spindles.  I’m probably going to do the latter.  I still have 5 more oz of the alpaca/bfl/silk that I was spinning on the Russians, have some yummy 18.5 micro merino/cashmere on another Russian, and can always go for a little fiber on a drop spindle.  Might work on some ITW Chromatic on a Bosworth too.  We shall see.  Whichever tool I take with me, there will be spinning!

Craft on!

Congrats on the new job. The enforced 40 hour work week & shortened commute sound like a dream!
