One Crazy Fiber Lady

The ramblings of a fiber-affected single mother of twins who makes a living as a code monkey

One Crazy Fiber Lady

Weekend Update

February 9th, 2009 · 12 Comments

Wow this weekend was one of those rare very busy ones. ¬†We had something to do both days. ¬†I’m tired, and honestly, ready for another weekend, but of the more low key kind ;)

Friday night, I did indeed finish Selbu Modern on the way home. I even worked in the ends before getting of the train.  Here she is, unblocked:

In an unusual occurrence for me, I actually blocked it Friday night as well. ¬† ¬†After struggling with my standard coffee can + socks/t-shirt/bag as a blocking method, I read the pattern instructions and went for the 10″ plate. ¬†Awesome idea!

I then put the plate on top of the coffee can and placed the works in front of the heating vent in my bathroom.  She was dry almost before I went to sleep after an awesome Battlestar Galactica episode!

(Tis hard to take a picture of yourself wearing a jaunty beret!) ¬†J’adore mon beret! ¬†

After finishing with the beret, I finally picked out my yarns for the sock yarn club. ¬†I only signed up for six months but have left open the options to extend for the remainder of the year. ¬†I did kind of rig the first package because I just received a yarn order and wanted to use that first, but I’ll let myself slide for that. ¬†I cast on Mini Mochi in the blue (108) colorway, using the freebie pattern from Socks a la Carte (c’est une Ravelry link)! I then proceeded to order the
book. ¬†I had finished the upper cuff portion before heading out to the first event of the weekend, a birthday party for one of the twins’ classmates. ¬†I got to wear my new beret and was ablet to knit for 90 minutes while the kids ran around. ¬†It was nice. ¬†Here’s where the sock is now (after more knitting time yesterday)..

The yarn is super soft, but is a single, that is loosely plied. ¬†Its alot like knitting with Noro, but way softer. ¬†I’m using a US0, primarily because the pattern is 64st and with my wee feet, that’s the only way they’re going to fit. ¬†I think I’d normally use a 1 for this yarn.

After dropping the kids at the house, I ran to Jessica’s for her monthly fiber gathering. ¬†I spent a few hours amongst the similarly afflicted :) ¬†I then got a bonus of having dinner with Tina and Jessalu at what they redundantly call a “Greek Diner”. ¬† I always have camnesia at these events. ¬†Not sure why but I do.¬†

Yesterday, Sandi, Kim and I went bowling along with Liam and the twins.

Sandi took the picture, which is why she’s not here. ¬†Ignore the lady to my left as she’s just an innocent bystander. ¬†Why are we standing outside? ¬†Because of this:

Yeah. ¬†Just after I threw my first ball, the fire alarm sounds and they announce a “fire drill”. ¬†The building emptied into the parking lot. ¬†In my book, when they turn up in the gear, it ceases to be a fire drill, but that’s just me! ¬†It was a false alarm and we were allowed back inside to finish up. ¬† I’m pretty sure a good time was had by all. ¬†Sandi and I returned to my house where we played a few games of Wii bowling with the monkeys.

Whew.. I’m beat!

Craft on!

OK. Now I am seriously worried. We are so different, but crave the same yarns and patterns. I’ve been eyeing the mini mochi since the middle of last week. Have to finish Mom’s scarf first.

The beret looked fantastic in person, too. And it was so good to see you, too … it’s been too long!

I had a great time at the fire “drill”. Loved spending time with you and the monkeys. It was great to meet your parents. I’m looking forward to quilting and learning just how you do those amazing patterns like in that beautiful beret! Thanks for a great day!

Oh oh oh oh oh! That shading in the sock is scrumptious! The beret – fabulous, and looks great on you. Fire drill in the middle of bowling – yeah, not so much. Glad it was a false alarm and you all had fun anyway.

    mmm…turnout gear. ;o)

(yeah, there’s a reason why I live with a fireman, hehe)

…what, there’s knitting in the post? I forgot all about it…

The hat looks AWESOME, esp. with the color of your hair. I had to give an evil chuckle (sorry!) about being bushed by having an activity both days of the weekend. Just wait… soon enough you’ll be eager to go back to work on Monday just so you can get some rest.

The beret was absolutely fantastic. Those were so the colorws I would pick also. It was good to see you and get 4 little Ladybugs in one room.

The hat looks great on you and I’m really liking that sock. Keep up the good work. :)

It was great seeing you, and your family! And thanks for dinner!

    Hi

I’m a friend of “S”. I have met “G”. I, too, knit, crochet, and quilt. I love the beret also.
And the socks. I also knit socks, but I have yet to find a yarn that I love – they are either not soft enough, or too droopy. Any advise?

The most eventful bowling ever! It was fun! Saturday was awesome too. It was a crazy busy but fun weekend. This weekend will be about relaxing at home and kicking back with some knitting. Le beret est tres jolie.
