The ramblings of a fiber-affected single mother of twins who makes a living as a code monkey

I have to admit that I really don’t have anything to say. I’ve been knitting and reading, but nothing exciting has been going on. After what happened this spring, that probably isn’t such a bad thing.

Work is going very well and I’m enjoying what I am doing. I look forward to the challenges that this position affords as I rebuild the company intranet. Thanks to the company, I’ve become a bit of a clothes horse, taking full advantage of the company discount. My wardrobe was never this nice before!

The monkeys are doing well. They’ve discovered the joy that is lego (though walking thru their room barefoot has me calling it something else). They’ll happily fritter away an hour playing with those colorful blocks while I sit and knit. Cate was right, it does get easier. That isnt to say that I don’t sometimes look forward to a Monday every now and again.

Work proceeds apace on the two Dale sweaters for the monkeys. No I haven’t yet finished the body for Al’s yet. Though I am halfway through the snowflake on Kat’s first sleeve. I’ll probably take A’s sweater to the Modern Yarn SnB tonight and finally finish the body.

Like I really needed another project (yes I fell off my own WIP Wipeout – any surprise there?), I started something new. The picture is the beginning of the Leaf Lace Shawl in Moss Green Misti Alpaca Lace. I blame this on the store that shall remain nameless where I first met and fondled this yarn. I had to have some. My first thought was the shawl in the new IK, but it has those pesky nupps. Homey don’t do nupps. So I put the yarn back and only bought the koigu (first sock was restarted last night during Project Runway). When I got back to the office I did a little project surfing and decided on the color first and ordered it from The Point. I actually picked it up on Friday when I went for an afterwork shopping excursion that also included J.Crew and Purl. I figured what pattern would be better for a moss green yarn than this one, so I ordered it. I’m pretty sure I started this Sunday night (and haven’t touched it since) but my short term memory resembles nothing more than swiss cheese. So far I’m loving it, though I really do need to finish some WIPs off.

I am about to hit a blog milestone. 2000 comments is around the corner. I’ll be picking up something tonight at MY for two lucky recipients who drops a comment around said milestone…. the first recipient will be the actual 2000th commenter while the other will be randomly selected winner. I’ll post pictures of the prizes tomorrow. You know what to do. Good luck.

Craft on!

Homey don’t do nupps? LOL! I have that same colour of Misti Alpaca (and, um, perhaps 2 others).

Looking forward to seeing the Dale sweaters together! And maybe, just maybe, they’ll be ready for the first chilly day of autumn! Am working on sweater and a vest and socks, myself…

You know, I gave up on the WIP wipeout too. You just can’t have too many WIP’s. ;)
Glad the new job is going well!

I’d be surprised if you didn’t start a new project. As for legos, they are such a perfect toy! One SnBer’s bf even built her a ball winder out of legos. I’ll be it won’t be long before your monkeys start trying to build a spinning wheel – maybe even an electric. :)

Gee thanks for introducing me to Modern Yarn. I had the hardest time not buying the whole store! I had to think about how much room I didn’t have in my luggage.
It would be a VERY bad thing if I still lived in Lincoln Park or Clifton!

2000 comments? Holy cow. I don’t even think I’m up to a hundred yet. But right, I lost my former blog – that one probably had 80K comments b/c of all the spam! I’m glad to hear you’re liking your new job – whoo hoo!

I can’t wait to see the finished Dale sweaters. I don’t have the gumption for such projects so I’m doing it through you ;)

WIP’s won’t even go there. I’m attempting to organize stuff and I found so many today that I forgot totally about. Cool finding the needles with them though.

My niece isn’t old enough for Legos yet, but when I saw this site I bookmarked it for the future. It will help avoid those middle of the night screaming session when you step on a four-dot Lego.

Nothing to say? Please. It’s nice to have you back to a semi-regular posting schedule. Now I can start feeling jealous again about all the progress you make at the drop of a hat, while I knit away on my darn prayer shawl, going on a year now.

Love the shawl! I’m thinking about making it for my mom for Christmas — I should get started on it now!

2000 comments – wow! I’m looking forward to seeing the Dale sweaters when they’re done, I’ll bet the monkeys look adorable in them.

I envy kids today for the Lego sets that are available!

The sweaters ARE going to look great. And, legos? Wonderful, but yes, I’d wear slippers or something. . .

Leaf Lace was my first lace shawl and I loved it. Hope you enjoy the pattern!
So, anything happening with construction stuff yet?

Too funny, “Homey, don’t do NUPPS”. I don’t either but I had to do the Swallowtail for my lys in this lovely laceweight cashmere they gave me to do it in. So, I just ain’t doin the NUPPS. Looks lovely without them personally.

I say do it, just leave out the NUPPS.

Legos are great! My daughter loves them and is aquiring them at an alarming rate.

I empathize in your falling off the WIP Wipout wagon. It’s just too hard to resist a great new project or a super soft yarn.

Hey, It’s about to be Autumn in all her glory, so a lovely fall colored new shawl project is just what should be on the knitting docket. No objections here counselor. :)

Ah, I can only imagine what fun you must be having with that clothes discount! :)

  • 17 Danielle // Aug 25, 2006 at 10:01 am

Glad to see you back on line again! I was missing the monkeys :)

  • 18 Mary // Aug 25, 2006 at 10:14 am

Yeah, I also fell off the WIP Wipeout. Too much yarn, too many projects–I just love the bright and shiny aspect of starting something new.

“you know what to do”. Very cute.

I’m working on LL right now, too. Judy yarn.

The sweaters are looking great! I actually started a skirt for my daughter from the Barefoot Knits book I picked up at MY. Of course she picked the long skirt and not the short one I pointed out to her so this could take a while.

Thanks for the tip on Knit NY as I was thinking of hitting that shop the next time I’m in the city. And since I don’t get in that often, I wouldn’t want to waste my time. But I could definitely see myself heading down to Purl again.

I cannot wait to see the finished little people sweaters! Fair Isle work just hexes me to no end and I want to master it so badly. I will just get my fix through you.;o)

Legos are so awesome. Do they have Lincoln Logs yet? Our entire family has been known to drag out the Legos, wooden blocks and Lincoln Logs to build massive things on the living room floor in the winter…even still, the oldest will play (she’s 15). Threaten to pack them up if you step on them after playtime, then follow through if needed. They’ll learn quickly to pick them up in order to keep them out.

I do *not* miss the legos. Or the Polly Pocket’s. Polly hurts worse than any lego when she gets lodged in the bottom of your foot ;o)

Can’t wait to see the sweaters!

  • 23 Eva // Aug 27, 2006 at 7:17 am

Hiya, legos… don’t remind me of those!!! My brother used to have tons of them. And in the playroom we had a persian carpet and you didn’t see them darn onsies and twosies and boy did that hurt indeed!!!!

WIP Wipeout… hmmm that sounds a bell LOL. I think I was part of that too wasn’t I???

I have done the swallowtail shawl. It should be called a shawlette as it is small. I made it using sockyarn and I will block it this week, but it really is tiny.
I did the nupps. Didn’t realise they were in there until I came upon them hahahaha. It does help if you remember to make those 5 stitches very loose and if you use them pointy KnitPicks needles. I’m making it again right now using some more sock yarn. I’ll be making more repeats and leaving out the nupps this time though.

Cheers Eva – PS: you know what I miss???? Kitty Zen…
