The ramblings of a fiber-affected single mother of twins

One Crazy Fiber Lady

Alive

I’ve gotten a couple of emails checking up on me to make sure everything was all right.  I’m terribly touched.  It means alot to me to know that I was missed.  I miss everyone too!  As much as I haven’t been posting, I haven’t been able to read the myriad of blogs that I subscribe to.  Sadly, I suspect that when life returns to some semblance of normalcy, I will have to simply start again at Bloglines.  There’s no way I’ll be able to get through over a month’s worth!

It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks.  I can’t believe how long it has been since I posted a regular post.  For those in the WIP Wipeout, please continue finishing  off your projects.  This group has been a great inspiration to finish or declare DOA the sad and neglected projects.  I would like a couple of weeks to get settled before posting another Wipeout update.

The insanity is almost over.  Moving day is set for Friday.  It had been Saturday but the forecast is predicting some much needed rain.  Additionally, the kids can be in daycare and not underfoot through it all if we do it Friday.  Gives me one less packing day, but one less day in this nutty apartment and one more day to unpack :)   It will be nice to finally not be technically living in two places.  I look forward to not having to pack up the twins each night and schlep them to the other place to sleep.  I really look forward to not having a herd of people living upstairs from me who lack basic consideration.  Deb got an email full of the latest adventure with the insane Mrs. Landlord, but I think I’ll spare repeating it here.  Suffice it to say that the chick is nuts and seriously wrong.  Someday she’ll remember that underneath the geeky programmer is a lawyer.  I might not be practicing, but I still know how to do legal research and read a contract.  She’s toast.  I can easily say that I really won’t miss her!  I’ve been busy packing, sorting, tossing and freecycling.  It is amazing how much more that I still need to do though.  Almost all the yarn, with the exception of the current WIPS (and the recent purchases), have been moved, along with one box shy of the entire collection of knitting and crafting books, magazines and misc pattern leaflets.  I’m long since committed to this move as you can tell by the earliest relocated items.

I still haven’t gotten any offers on permanent employment, but I’m not sweating it.  I’m still at the temporary gig and will be through the end of the month.  It is pretty promising that it will extend beyond that.  I’m not quite clear on how to interpret some of the recent statements I’ve been hearing as to "keeping me on".  I’m not sure if that means they’ll as for May or offer me something longer term.  Either way, I won’t complain.  It is a good place with good people.  The work itself ranges from dull to challenging.  I prefer variety and there seems to be plenty of it there.  There’s the possibility of completely rewriting one of the apps they support which would be a great task.  With the discovery of being able to buy an individual health insurance policy for about half the cost of COBRA, I don’t have the pressure of absolutely needing a permanent job with benefits on my shoulders.  I can take my time and find the right one.  What?  Me worry? :)

I haven’t been doing a tremendous amount of knitting as the train time has been for learning new programming languages and with the exception of a couple of hours of tv time, where I sit on the couch idle, I’ve been moving about too much to actually get anything done.  I did manage to finish the first sleeve of my new Ribby and am now read to begin the sleeve cap for the second one.

That’s all I’ve got time for now.  I just wanted to check in and let you all know that I’m still alive and miss you terribly!

Craft on.

I have been so worried about you and your twins since you haven’t posted for a long time and didn’t have your e-mail address but am so happy now that we have heard from you. I am glad your are moving and that it is going well but I know it is a lot of hard work and with twins that is very difficult. Good luck with the move and so happy to hear from you that things are going well for you. Hope to hear from you again soon. Cathi

Ah… down to the ‘nitty gritty’ is worse than being overwhelmed at the beginning of the packing process. Have been there so very many times. There was one 15 month period I moved 3 times! Now, That was crazy! It amazes me how much is really left after the place seems empty! I know you have good help in family and such, but we’re with you to give you strength! Despite the fact that I’ve donated and tossed and garage saled enough for a lifetime in the last few years, I still try to get rid of 5 things a week! (1 of those includes the week’s junk mail that accumulates after the initial toss — the stuff that looks interesting for later reading and is just tossed anyhow!) Hugs and chocolate and strong arms/backs to you!

You have a lot of balls in the air but seem to be a master juggler. It might be awhile before you feel settled but it all sounds good. We’ll look forward to your return.

I was wondering about your move with the weather forecast for Saturday–tomorrow sounds like a much better idea! (And, daycare for the underfoot-set? Definitely a plus.)

Things WILL calm down . . . soon!! Just think, you don’t even HAVE to unpack everything yet, since you’ll be moving a lot of it again in a few months when the addition is built. I mean, clearly, you’ll need to unpack a bunch of stuff, but some things like winter clothes or whatever can just sit patiently in their boxes until September or whenever . . .

So great to hear from you! I’m glad all is going well. You’re going to land much better off than you started off, and I am glad you have the time to really choose the right place and job.

It sounds like it’s all good. We miss you, but certainly understand. Thanks for the update, and can’t wait to hear from you from your new blogging station in your new home!

Great to hear from you! Life will settle down before too long and you will be back to your knitting.

Good luck with the move and the job search. Seems like you’ve got a great approach towards both life changes.

Hope things go well today! And tonight, you and the little ones can rest your heads in your new home and never have to go back to the dark side.

    Good luck today! :)

Thanks so much for the update. I’ve been watching, but not really worrying as I certainly know what a time-suck moving is! My total sympathies. Go ahead and give yourself permission to check out for a while. I gave up on fully catching up and am just jumping into the current posts. It’s all you can do. So glad to know you’re getting away from crazy woman. They were VERY loud! Hope moving day goes as smoothly as possible.

Very much hoping the job front solidifies soon. New languages never hurt – time well spent.

Yes, it’s 1:41 am. I am in an insane loop trying to do on-line signup for Rachel’s camp at the Y, but their website is so badly designed (and the server’s overloaded) that I’m going to bag it. They need you to clean up their code! I stayed up for this??? At least I’m catching up on my favorite blogs :)

Risa, it is good to hear from you again. I checked many times and figured you were overloaded with the move. Hope all goes well for you and the twins.

I’m glad you’re doing well. I’ve been checking your blog, and figured you were busy with work & moving.

I hope the move went well for you, too.

Glad to hear you have some benefits & the temp employment is working out. :-)

Glad to hear that thing are moving more towards stability. When the living space is locked into place, other stuff becomes more bearable. Hope it went okay.

What a time in your life! I imagine it’s been pretty crazy but it’s progress and you’re handling it. It’ll get better!!
