One Crazy Fiber Lady

The ramblings of a fiber-affected single mother of twins who makes a living as a code monkey

One Crazy Fiber Lady

Blah blah blah

I appreciate the commiseration for the less than ideal living situation and reminder that this too is going to end.  Soon too.  I’m putting a note in with my rent check next week, giving them my notice that I’m going to move.  That will make it all real, won’t it?  I came home last night to no TV.  Not entirely sure what happened, must check near the garage tonight as I was too darn tired to deal with it last night.  I did make sure to unplug the ReplayTV until I figure it out as the damn thing was trying to record something last night and getting nothing but blue screen.  Just what I’d need it to do, replace all the Big Comfy Couch episodes with blue screen.  Wouldn’t my life be complete then?

Dress1I met my sister and two of her other bridesmaids at David’s Bridal last night.  With twins in tow, we all tried on a variety of colors and skirt designs to pick out the faves.  This is the winner.  Sadly the picture of the top doesn’t convey the gorgeous back to it.  It is a pretty dress and as bridesmaid dresses go, awfully good :)   Unfortunately the whole dress shopping had the twins out rather late.  I didn’t get them into the car to go home until 1/2 hour after their bedtime.  They both conked in the car.  Kat never woke up, even as I took off her shoes and coat.  I plunked her in bed and she stayed down until she turned up next to my bed at 5:30 this morning.  Alex showed up there at 12:30.  At least he wasn’t restless and went straight to sleep.  How we’ve gone from the occasional time in mom’s bed when really sick to a nightly (early morning) routine is beyond me.  I care more about how to break this before waiting for them to grow out of it.  I wonder if I can crate them at night.  Kidding!  It wouldn’t be so bad if they followed normal bed etiquette and kept their heads on the pillow and feet towards the end of the bed.  Nooooo.  I woke this morning with three legs draped across me with a fourth foot poking me in the back.  We did vaguely resemble a puppy pile.

I didn’t knit very much yesterday, understandably as I was a bit tired.  I’m still hoping that I can get Klaralund off the needles tonight, but not if I have to #$% around with the cable wire for most of the evening.  I do have to relate an event that happened which should be noted in the record books.  I went down to Seaport Yarn with a coworker, who needed needles for that MUST START project (yarn arrived the day before ;) ,  and, are you ready for this, DIDN’T BUY ANYTHING.  Can you believe it?  Not even a skein of sock yarn! Not so much as a stitch marker.  I did fondle some Rowan crack Kidsilk Haze in a very yummy orangish color, but was strong and put it back.  There are a couple of projects I want to finish off, need to get the WIP list back under control before I cast on anything else.  Deb’s Lace Neckwarmer or the Orenberg inspired Mountain Stream Scarf are both serious contenders in the crack usage department. But then again, I have CONES of KSHlike yarn from Silk City Fibers just sitting in the twins’ room in 4 different colors.    Oh, did I mention I joined another KAL?  The Sampler Stole Along the Eunny formed, like I do so well at KALs.  Nope, haven’t started it, but I do have the yarn for it sitting in stash.  Would be a perfect use of the J&S cobweb that I bought back during the Shetland Lace workshop.

Anyway, I’m tired and just rambling now, so I’ll call it a day….

Craft on!

We go one step above crating, gating. We use a pressure gate on Peanut’s door when she goes to bed. She’s too short to climb it. My nephew is not..so we double them up when he comes to stay. If she gets out of bed, she’s at least confined to her room. She doesn’t do things like want to crawl in bed with us…nooo, she’d rather wander around the house and destroy things, eat cat food or test the knobs on the gas stove when no one’s looking. I felt bad about it at first, but then realized it was for her own good. Yeah for submitting your move notice!! What a great feeling!

I’m an absolute sucker for the feel of a warm cuddly short person snuggled up sleeping beside me, so can’t help you with that one. You definitely lucked out on the bridesmaids dress though. I’ve been draped in some pretty nasty creations in my time. And I second the YAY for submitting your move notice. Makes the light at the end of the tunnel just that bit brighter.

Pressure gate sounds like an excellent idea — especially now that they’ll have a whole huge house with grandparents to wander around in. You haven’t mentioned — don’t suppose your sister’s going to want you to knit her a matching purple shrug?

that’s my DB’s purple brides maids dresses! I wanted mystic purple SO BAD but the dress style wouldn’t accomdate some of the more busty girls, so I went with the lylac I think it was caled, and then the mens vests matched! Those drat men kept them buttoned up!

hey, as bridesmaid’s dresses go that’s nice! I like the separate skirt concept. The top would look good with dressy pants for a night out. I know at least one of my boys used to sleepwalk and for the life of me, I can’t remember how we kept him in his room. I’ll have to ask DH tonight. I don’t do door locks, so I know that wasn’t it. What did we do?…. that’s gonna bug me all day now. :P

The dress is lovely. I think the two piece ensemble is definitely the way to go anymore. As for the short people crawling into bed with you…enjoy it now. Time flies by all too quickly and before you know it, they’ll be in high school. We co-slept with the oldest dd, middle dd wanted no part of it from day one and the youngest has only been sleeping completely by herself for about the past year. Yes, she’s six but my miracle baby and therefore spoiled beyond words. And yes, I did become annoyed with the entire thing at times but seeing that beautiful smile first thing in the morning was worth it. I’m a sucker for the short people, no matter what.

Having said all that, I bet there will be a lot of the crawling into your bed thing once the move happens even though it’s to a very familar house with big people they love to the ends of the earth. Just how short people everywhere react to change. That’s my public service announcement for the day. lol.

That dress is really quite lovely. We’ll get to see wedding photos when the big day comes, right?

The dress is beautiful. My bridesmaids were something very similar but theirs were made by a seamstress (I got them the fabric). Great choice!! :-)

I agree, the dress is lovely, but, sorry, don’t really have any advice for the twins-in-bed thing, since my little boy DOES sleep in a crate, so he doesn’t have much choice! (grin) Baby gates sound reasonable, though . . . or at least, take advantage of the move to make a point, “Now that you have a NEW room because you’re so BIG, you can stay here all night!”

Ahhh yes, sleeping with kids. The joys! The thrill of waking with an arm pinning you down by your neck! The aches and pains in your body the next day! I hate to tell you this Risa, but my daughter grew out of it (maybe there is a way to train them & I just don’t know about it?). Now she only ends up in my bed if she’s had a really bad dream or if she’s fallen out of bed, or something like that.:-)

lovely dress. On kids sleeping in your bed. I just recently got my kids out of my bedroom. They’re 6 almost seven and 5. Break the habit really really soon or you will never get rid of them. They’ll move in take all the covers and pillows. You’ll be forced to sleep with an assortment of toys rocks etc. get them out! I haven’t a clue how to accomplish that unfortunitly.

One of my bridesmaids wore that outfit too! But hers was a red color … apple, maybe?

Love the style and color of the dresses. You are a strong woman to go to a yarn shop and walk out with nothing. Just remember that one less thing you have to move.
